Sharp to double workforce of Kameyama plant for smartphone camera parts

According to Japanese media, Sharp plans to double workforce of its Kameyama plant in Mie Prefecture, Japan for new business. The workforce count of Kameyama plant as of Dec 2016 is 2067.

The plant is currently Sharp’s main factory of LCD panel. The new business for the plant may include camera parts for smartphone for customers such as Apple. While production of small and medium size LCD panel has been largely automated, assembly of camera parts requires manual work so increase of workforce is required.

To increase workforce, Sharp will hire new employee as well as transfer personnel from other divisions. Sharp will increase the workforce of the plant to around 4000 from Jul 2017.
