Hamamatsu Photonics completes new building for manufacturing optical semiconductors

Hamamatsu Photonics has announced the completion of the new building No.1 in Shingai factory. The Shingai factory, located in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, is a mass production fab specialized in back end process. The new building will increase the production rate of back end process of optical semiconductor elements. Production at the new building will be started on May 2017.

The new No.1 building will manufacture light receiving and emitting elements for X-ray nondestructive inspection equipment and automobile related systems such as collision prevention, automatic air conditioning, automatic lighting, automatic wiper and in-vehicle optical communication. MPCC (Multi-Pixel Photon Counter) for medical equipment and sensors for healthcare will also be manufactured.

The building has 4 floors with total floor area of 9,342m2. Equipment for assembling and inspection of chip on board package, pre-molded package and flip chip package are installed in the production lines of the new building. Combined with the existing building No.3, the monthly production rate will be increased to 4 million units to 10 million units.

There are two buildings, old building No.1 as administration block and building No.3 as manufacturing block, currently in operation in the Shingai factory. The new building No.1 will incorporate the administration functions of the aging old building No.1, which will be demolished. This will strengthen the disaster preparedness and energy saving measures for environment such as LED lighting and better heat insulation.
